Refugees in urban centres should be absorbed in various professions, thus become net earners and stop depending on
local and international aid.
The Government allocation to support refugees has grown to Sh200 million from Sh16 million since the Refugee Act
2006
Kenya hosts nearly 350,000 refugees from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan and the Great Lakes region.

Accommodation
Accommodation that is provided for the volunteers is the family homestay type. This means that volunteers stay with a family as their host. Staying with a host family is very ideal and cost effective for both the volunteer. The volunteer gets to have the experience of a different culture. In a room a volunteer has to his/her own, a bed and beddings. In the urban homes of the host families, volunteers have access to most facilities. However, there are some places of work and residence without electricity and running water so you may do without television, and other facilities. However were are very sensitive about the volunteer’s security and safe health. The cost of accommodation is part of the total program fee. In most cases, it's one volunteer to one room. Matching volunteers to host families and pairing volunteers in a room is done by picking needed information from the volunteers themselves. The host families are consistently screened with their information updated on regular basis to make sure they meet our standards and also match to volunteers we send over to them.
We normally would want to place our volunteers outside the City or main towns because of transportation expenses, but if a volunteer(s) insist that they want to be placed in Nairobi, or any of main towns, where cost of transport will be incurred, then they will have to meet their daily transportation expenses.
If a volunteer wishes to stay in a hostel or hotel, arrangements can be made on request, but the expenses are higher compared to staying with a host family.
